Pioneer's Porridge is a wholesome mixture of white grits, yellow grits, cracked wheat, & whole rice. Add a small amount of butter and white & brown sugar for a delicious bowl, or add one or more of the following: honey, raisins, nuts, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, sliced bananas, cinnamon, nutmeg, apple pie spice, & fresh cream. Apple juice can also be substituted for the water in the basic recipe. Porridge also is perfect for a side dish to chicken, pork chops, roast beef, and more. Just add butter and season & serve as you would rice. You can also substitute chicken stock when cooking for even more flavor.
